Schalke beat Besiktas in first China Tour friendly

Schalke 04 kicked off their Chinese Tour with a 3-2 win over Turkish Champions Besiktas on Tuesday. A first Royal Blue goal for Amine Harit before half time was added to after the break by Luke Hemmerich and Yevhen Konoplyanka.

New signing left back Bastian Oczipka was left out of the squad as he continues to adapt to the time difference after coming back from Frankfurt’s Tour of the United States. Other new additions Pablo Insua and Amine Harit both made the starting XI.

Neither team made an impact on the other’s penalty area in the early stages as both sides took time to adjust to the 30 degree temperatures and even higher humidity. Harit wasted a good opportunity just before the hour mark, but made amends minutes later by coolly slotting home from a one-on-one. The former Nantes man was put through Weston Mckinnie and found the back of the net from 18 yards out to give his side the lead shortly before half time.

Luke Hemmerich added a second with a lovely solo run and finish before Yevhen Konoplyanka finished off a neat and flowing Royal Blue counter attack, after Domenico Tedesco made nine changes to his line up at half time - with only Benjamin Stambouli and Ralf Fährmann staying on the pitch.

Cenk Tosun pulled one back when he diverted a free kick from the right home with his head before adding a second minutes later to set up a nervy finish.
Schalke held on, and will now prepare to play Inter Milan on Friday in Changzou at 13:30CEST
